Hurricane Erin to Be The Start Of Hurricane Season

Hurricane Erin to Be The Start Of Hurricane Season

Have you guys heard of the new hurricane updates? Apparently this one is going to be a pretty big one to kick off the season…

As of today, Erin is packing 45 mph sustained winds and moving at about 20 mph across the central Atlantic. While still a tropical storm, forecasters are confident it will strengthen — and soon. Meteorologists expect Erin to reach hurricane status by Friday or Saturday(8/15 and 8/16), potentially becoming the first major hurricane of the 2025 season with winds topping 115 mph. That would make it a Category 3 storm.. This is a serious system even if it stays offshore. The storm is also expected to churn up dangerous rip currents and high surf along the U.S. East Coast — from the Carolinas all the way to Maine — even if it stays far out to sea.

The National Hurricane Center is also tracking a separate disturbance in the western Caribbean near the Yucatán Peninsula. While its development chances are low (10–20%), it could bring rain to eastern Mexico and parts of southern Texas later this week. Hurricane Erin may not make landfall, but it’s a reminder that the season is still fresh and storms can strengthen quickly and fast.

For anyone in the tropical areas we hope you stay safe! Thanks for reading
