Kick off of the Landmark Trial

Kick off of the Landmark Trial

A high-stakes legal showdown is unfolding in San Francisco that could reshape the limits of presidential power and the role of the U.S. military on American soil.

Today marks the start of a three-day bench trial before U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, focusing on whether the Trump administration illegally deployed military forces in Los Angeles during immigration-related unrest earlier this summer. In June, about 4,700 troops—including 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines—were sent to LA to assist with operations tied to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and to manage large protests. This was done without approval from California Governor Gavin Newsom, sparking immediate legal challenges.

So basically if the court sides with California, it could place major new restrictions on future military deployments within U.S. cities, setting a precedent that limits the executive branch’s authority in domestic affairs.

This trial isn’t just about Los Angeles—it’s about drawing the line between security and overreach, federal power and states’ rights, and how America enforces its laws at home.

A ruling is expected soon so come back here to find out when we do!
