The ban of cell phones during school hours. Agree or Disagree?

So as we know school is starting back up right? How are the parents feeling? Sad, happy, a mix of both? Well how do you guys feel about the banning of cell phones during school hours? Well in recent news a major shift is sweeping classrooms across America: cell phones are being banned in schools at the state level.

So far, 17 states and Washington, D.C. have enacted active laws or executive orders restricting or banning student phone use during school hours. These include:

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.

But the list doesn’t stop there. Many more states—including Ohio, Oregon, North Carolina, Vermont, Minnesota, and Arizona—have passed laws requiring school districts to create their own policies limiting or banning phones in classrooms.

The push for phone-free schools is about more than just stopping TikTok scrolling. Educators and parents are pushing for bans because:

  • Phones are seen as major distractions from learning.

  • Research shows heavy screen use can harm focus, sleep, and mental health.

  • Social media use during the school day has been linked to bullying and anxiety.

Now I'm all for the prevention of cyber bullying and bullying in general but im going to assume some people wont be so happy about this news.

What do you think? Are school phone bans a smart way to boost focus—or do they go too far?

Let us know what you think! Thanks again, fellow readers.
